How do I completely clean a hard drive?
I have a HD from a laptop that died. I put it into an enclosure to create a secondary storage drive. I'm trying to delete everything off of the HD now that it is in the enclosure. When I select everything and try to delete it, several files come back saying they cannot be deleted. Windows is showing that about 15 GB of space on the HD is currently being used. How do I get rid of everything on this drive?
simple answer
format it
select the drive in my computer
> right click it
> on the context menu select "format"
when the format dialog comes up select the check box for quick format
as you use the drive the old files will be over written
to completely destroy the data you need a data destroying utility but I'm guessing that's not what you're after
rather just looking to clean it off and use as file storage
