In a sealed system, is water pressure transmitted though air?
I need to measure absolute water pressure, but my pressure sensors only work in dry gasses and the pressure varies enough to make a manometer impractical. I would like to make a vertical water line a sealed system connected to the transducer, but with air between the water and the transducer itself. I'm thinking the rising water level will pressurize the air to the water's pressure, and the measurement of the air pressure will equal the water pressure. Will this method work?
Your answer will be confounded by the pressure seemingly lost due to the height of the water column.
Better to get a container with ports top and bottom; that way the rise/fall of the level will be less, since there is a larger area.
You can make a container with larger diameter pipe and reducers each end.
You could also measure the rise/fall at several pressures and come up with a correction table.
Pressure at the bottom of a water column = density x g x height
