Grand Canyon question?
Coming from Southern California and going to the Grand Canyon for the first time.
This will only be a brief stop and want to stay on the southern edge of the Grand Canyon area.
We will be on the way to Phoenix.
If you look at this map, I want to know if all the Green area is actually accessible and allows viewing of the Grand Canyon.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Grand+Canyon,+Az&sll=39.324505,-77.739472&sspn=0.013213,0.027466&ie=UTF8&ll=36.146747,-112.626343&spn=1.87186,3.515625&z=8
We do not want to go to the Reserve area or official Park Headquarters. That's too far out of the way.
Is the town of Grand Canyon on the edge of the Green area good?
Thank you
Wow, so far so good. Just to clarify, I'll be traveling from Southern California below LA, to right above Phoenix.
On this map, the road that runs north from Williams is HWY 64, the central viewing area is right where the orad turns from North to east bound.
You can drive east and view much of the canyon, if you have a short time that is the best thing. There are plenty of places to pull over.
Grand Canyon Village is not so much a town. but the area where the ranger station and a large park operated hotel is.
There are more hotels in Tusayan, which is a real town although it is small, they serve a lot of visitors/
You dont say where you are coming from but you will be going out of your way as it is not near PHX, but it is worth the detour.
