HELP PLSValve cover seal that has leaked oil into spark plugs? How do I remove oil and effectively change seal?
I have a 92 Accord that has a lot of oil leaked into the spark plugs and has lost power. It is only 3 of the plugs and they are soaked in oil. What are some specifics I need to know about changing out the seal and removing any oil that is around the spark plugs or anywhere else that may mess up the engine?
How much silicon do i need and where does it go?
You will need to replace the spark plug seals and the valve cover gasket. It all comes in a set. You won't need too many tools. You will need to remove the plugs and clean them off and clean the spark plug boots. You can get the oil out with paper towels. You will not get all of it out. Some will go into the cylinder when you remove the plug, but that won't hurt anything. It might smoke a little when you first start it up after fixing this, but it should go away within 10 or 20 seconds.
I just did this on the same kind of car about 6 months ago. I usually put a rag over the hole and blow air down in there, it will blow out all the oil and dirt. If you are still nervous about doing this yourself, go get the Chilton's or Haynes manual for it. They are only about $20. It will save you lots of headaches later, trust me.
